Season of Creation 2021

Season of Creation: A home for all? Renewing the Oikos of God

We now enter four weeks of the Season of Creation.

information on what people can do in their daily lives to live more sustainably.

The theme for this year’s Season of Creation, chosen by the ecumenical faith leaders from the members of the Season of Creation Advisory Committee, drew their inspiration from  Genesis, they state that,

“God set a dome over the Earth. The word ‘dome’ is where we get words such as ‘domicile’ and ‘domestic’ – in other words, God puts us all – all people, all life – under the same domed roof – we are all in the house, the oikos of God. God gave humans the ministry to take care and cultivate the oikos of God. The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others have called the oikos of God, ‘the Beloved Community,’ a community in which all of life are equally members, though each has a different role.

May God who established the dance of creation,

Who marvelled at the the lilies of the field,

Who transforms chaos to order,

Lead us to transform our lives

To reflect God’s glory in creation.

Faith and Environment

Currently Sr Caroline Vaitkunis, with support from Christine Mitchell, offers information on care for our environment through the newsletter and on the boards at each church. There are prayers and articles of interest, plus information on what people can do in their daily lives to live more sustainably.

There are many local groups in which people can become involved and contribute to caring for our environment, such as LoveourStreets3184, which pick up litter from a designated area once a month, to Beach patrol to making cloth bags for shopping.

Sr Caroline is currently promoting a sustainable approach to parishschool events. On occasion Sr Caroline speaks on issues and campaigns at the masses as well as an information stall.

Ideally, we would like to establish an active Faith and Environment group. Please speak to Sr Caroline or Christine if this interests you.
